PauL – Parking and guidance – Switching made easy
The "PauL - Parking and guidance" project is being funded by the Hessian State Chancellery and Minister for Digital Strategy and Development as part of the "Starke Heimat Hessen" programme. The city of Frankfurt is receiving around 1.2 million euros to set up and implement "PauL".
The aim is to make optimum use of the existing transport infrastructure through targeted control measures using data collected in real time, which takes into account the utilisation of P+R facilities, cycling facilities, sharing offers, alternative routes or parking guidance strategies. To this end, traffic and mobility information is to be provided promptly and dynamically in order to avoid detours and traffic searching for parking spaces.
In addition to less congestion and search traffic, the environment also benefits from fewer traffic movements. At the same time, P+R facilities, especially at major events, should encourage people to switch to public transport or bike-sharing services. This includes areas of stationary traffic such as public and private car parks. Another aim is to promote intermodal travel chains. For example, a P+R facility becomes a mobility hub where various services such as sharing offers, charging stations and bicycle parking facilities are bundled. This parking data manager requires the development of digital technology to integrate public and private parking facilities. So far, these have been using different digital systems and sensors. The project aims to bring these together.
The parking data will also be published via the Mobilithek (National Access Point for Mobility Data). By transmitting the parking information to the National Access Point, Frankfurt am Main is one of the first cities in Hesse to fulfil the obligation to provide data in accordance with the European Delegated Regulation. The project is also the basis and data foundation for the future traffic management and information system, which is due to go into operation in a few years' time.
